The Queensland Children’s Hospital energy plant has a lot of flexibility to provide the various services that the hospital requires.

SentientSystem has been deployed as a platform for Real-time Optimisation (RTO) on power stations around the world. Our customers use the platform to capture and operationalise plant knowledge and operations experience as RTO Modules that take control actions that optimise the plant’s operation. This ensures that best-practice decision making is automated to reduce costs and increase capacity.

SentientSystem calculates the station’s working efficiency using a real-time,  whole-of-plant simulation running on instrumented data.

It then learns the cause and effect that operator control points have on system efficiency.

Optimisation algorithms are then applied to maximise whole-of-system efficiency by modifying operator control points subject to constraints.

SentientAlert’s early warning capability is shown in the above diagram. An alert on an air inlet fan was detected and notified after a change in behaviour.

Unfortunately in this case, the lack of action led to the alerted problem causing an equipment failure a month later, resulting in significant loss of generation. 

When acted upon, these alerts can significantly reduce costly failures and loss of production.

Synengco is collaborating with the energy analytics team within the Queensland Government, aiming to make informed, data-driven recommendations to policy makers.

Leveraging on best practice concepts from ISO 55001 and US EPA NESCS, a systematic framework for strategic decision support has been developed. By encoding data and knowledge about the NEM using agent-based modelling, we can conduct rigorous assessments of how each decision may impact the network and help the transition towards a sustainable energy network.
